> to part 2, detailing this book

It's been a while since I discussed any mental health book that I was reading, so here it is. I started my current one just yesterday (8/08/16), and thus it's a fresh topic.

A fellow MH friend on twitter said on her page that it was a very positive read for her, and I think, thus far, that it'll have indeed enough information to draw upon.

Brian F. Martin's book's aim - as the cover announces - the 10 lies that children growing up with domestic violence learn, and suggests truths to set ''you'' free.

You, as in any one of us who was a child, grew up in such conditions and became an adult - scarred and yet with tools and inner strengths to use and reach inner peace, and fulfill our potentials.

This is all very promising, at least in theory. I think it'll take more than one read to truly incorporate the tools given by the author and the many people he interviewed in preparation for this book.

Let me precise that Brian F. Martin isn't a therapist nor a specialist of any kind. He's ''just a guy'', who experienced childhood in a violent home, and in his own path grew to unlearn the lies and fulfill personal potentials.

The scariest part is that 1 in 7 adults in the world have gone through domestic violence. A billion people who were or still are in the middle of it - in the middle of parents who hurt and abuse one another, verbally or physically.

Half of all these children and the adults they became didn't only ''witness'' and become traumatized by seeing and hearing abuse, but were also abused themselves.

Now, before i go any further, let me give you the table of contents.

Forward by Tony Robbins
Preface by Renee McDonald, PhD

then, Read me first, by Martin himself- he talks here about the need to read the book in proper order, chapter by chapter.

The first, the one I just finished, is called Undiscovered gifts

Then, each of the 10 lies, and opposing truths form chapters 2 through 11 - each lasting 20 to 30 pages :
2 Guilty to Free
3 Resentful to Compassionate
4 Sad to Grateful
5 Alone to Trusting
6 Angry to Passionate
7 Hopeless to Guided
8 Worthless to Accomplished
9 Fearful to Confident
10 Self-Conscious to Attractive
11 Unloved to Loving

12 My wish to you

The book ends with Acknowledgements, Notes and an Index

Brian Martin talks about his own life stories, and gives glimpses of those he interviewed.

I shall have to post other blog entries to detail my reading, and possibly a conclusion - in a week or two, hopefully.

Update: next parts are posts 120 & 131
